8.3 Excellent The Mizuno Wave Catalyst 2 is a lightweight-cushioned stability trainer. It provides a great performance experience due to the improvements made to the shoe this year, but unfortunately it's asking price is just too much.
Mizuno Wave Catalyst 2 is a comfortable and durable stability runner that offers a responsive and smooth ride to the wearer. It has the traditional Mizuno look and feel and serves the purpose of a running shoe very well. It has a slightly modified upper this year as well as some other minor improvements in the last. It features Mizuno’s first support shoe series and is ideal for mild over-pronators.
Mizuno Wave Catalyst 2 Performance
The upper of Mizuno Wave Catalyst 2 is a seamless one which is made up of knit material. It has welded overlays which give it a sturdy feel. The bootie construction and exoskeleton look a bit outdated, but the overall performance of the upper is outstanding. The shoe is so comfortable that you can wear them without socks and there will be no irritation because of the soft upper material. In these shoes, the previous problem of the unnatural fold of the toe-box has been resolved. The upper has a very slim and secure fit, and the heel is rigid enough to provide grip to the foot. There is foam wrapped around the collar which is soft and makes the runner feel comfortable during running.
The sole unit is almost the same as the Catalyst 1 as it is very responsive and provides a soft touch. The material used for the shoe’s midsole is Mizuno’s EU4IC which is very springy and responsive. This material allows the runner to feel well-cushioned when the foot strikes the ground. The heel strike feels very comfortable and cushioned, but the forefoot is not much comfortable. It offers good response and energy rebound through the toe-box, and overall performance of the outsole is excellent. The construction of the outsole has been done beautifully as the fan-shaped wave technology offers a snappy and responsive ride. There is a U4icX layer under the sock-liner that increases the comfort and cushions the foot.
Mizuno Wave Catalyst 2 Design
This Mizuno trainer’s shoe has a three-panel construction with an open mesh forefoot style. It is very lightweight; and wearing it the runners would not feel any weight on their foot. It is a combination of firm cushioning, light weight but sturdy support, and a fantastic fit. Its design is different from the predecessor as it offers more improved cushioning for the forefoot. The upper is made up of breathable mesh material and has decorative overlays. The rubber outsole along with a small offset provides the runner speed and traction for running. The DynamotionFit gives a snug and secure fit to the foot, and offers more depth at the toe-box. This shoe can be compared to Men’s New Balance Vazee Prism, Men’s Brooks PureCadence 5, and Men’s ASICS Gel DS Trainer 21 regarding performance and features.
Mizuno Wave Catalyst 2 Price
The Mizuno Wave Catalyst 2 is unfortunately overpriced as it sells for $165 CAD. While it does deliver incredible performance, cushioning, and support as a runner shoe, it doesn’t warrant such a hefty price-tag to go along with it.
